Hanging guide
Side Gates / Garden Gates
Left or Right Hanging Guide
At Design Gate Online, we aim to keep things simple and easy to understand. To help make sure your handcrafted, custom wrought iron gate is made exactly to your requirements, we’ve created this helpful hanging guide to explain how to choose the correct hanging side.
To decide which side your side gate or garden gate should hang from, simply follow this quick step.
Walk outside your property (see picture to the left) and stand facing the gate opening while looking back towards your house or garden. From this position, you can easily determine which side you would like the gate hinges to be fitted on.
Your gate will then hang from the side you select.
Please note that, as standard, our gates are designed to open inwards towards the property. If you would prefer your gate to open away from the property, please send us an email and include your order number.
If you are unsure or need any assistance, please feel free to get in touch with us. Our team at Design Gates Online is always happy to help and ensure the process is as simple as possible.
Hanging Options
Gate Wall Brackets
Wall brackets for gates are secured directly to pillars or walls using a 75mm x 75mm steel plate with a 12mm hinge pin welded to it.
Each plate has four fixing holes to suit your chosen anchors. We recommend using high-quality anchor fixings to securely support your wrought iron gates.
Railing Wall Brackets
Wall brackets for railings are secured directly to pillars or walls using a threaded adjustable brackets.
Both options are ideal if your pillars or walls are in good condition and structurally strong.
post Options
Wall Mounted Posts
Wall mounted posts are secured to walls or pillars using welded lugs.
These lugs are welded to the post at various points and include pre-drilled holes, allowing the posts to be securely anchored to the wall or pillar.
This option is perfect if your existing walls or pillars are in great condition and may be strong enough to support the full weight of the gate or railing.
Wall mounted posts help distribute the weight and stress of the gate or railing more evenly and can also provide additional reinforcement to your existing structure.
Below Ground Posts
Below ground posts are ideal if you do not have existing walls or pillars to fix to.
They are also recommended if your current walls or pillars are in very poor condition, not structurally sound or just an uneven profile.
These posts feature two welded hinge pins for gates or slotted lugs for railings and an additional 50cm of box section at the base, which is concreted into the ground to provide a strong and stable support. All of our posts come galvanised as standard.
